The Ambra Floor Lamp is a celebration of Mexican heritage and geological history. By pairing Cantera—a porous, lightweight volcanic stone formed over millions of years—with polished copper or brass, David Pompa creates a fixture that is both primitive and sophisticated. Its slender, vertical silhouette acts as a totemic element in a room, offering a warm, directional glow that highlights the natural textures of the stone.
The Cantera Base: Each base is hand-carved from natural volcanic rock. Because Cantera contains unique mineral inclusions and air pockets, no two lamps are identical.
Reflective Copper/Brass: The upper cylindrical housing is made of high-polish metal, creating a sharp visual contrast against the matte, earthy texture of the stone.
Proportional Balance: The heavy, grounded base provides stability, while the thin vertical body maintains a minimal footprint, making it ideal for tight architectural corners.
Soft Indirect Light: Designed to project a warm, atmospheric light that emphasizes the "soul" of the materials rather than just illuminating a task.
Expert Recommendations
Textural Layering: Place the Ambra against a smooth, white wall to let the porous texture of the volcanic stone pop.
The Living Room Totem: Use it as a secondary light source next to a low-profile sofa. Its height provides a vertical "anchor" to the room's layout.
Luxury Hospitality: Its durable stone base and high-end metal finish make it a favorite for upscale hotel lobbies and executive lounges where "quiet luxury" is the theme.
Does the stone crumble? No. Cantera is a structural stone used in Mexican architecture for centuries. While it is porous, it is extremely durable and professionally sealed for interior use.
How do you clean the copper? The copper is typically treated with a clear lacquer to prevent oxidation, so a simple dry microfiber cloth is all that's needed to maintain the shine.
Is it stable on carpet? Due to the significant weight of the volcanic stone base, the Ambra has a low center of gravity and remains very stable on most floor surfaces.
